In the hamlet of Oosthoven, near Oud-Turnhout, the church of Saint Anthony the Abbot has long been a familiar landmark for the community. A chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony stood here from the second half of the fourteenth century; in 1888 it was raised to the rank of parish church.
The present building was erected between 1891 and 1893 to a design by Pieter Jozef Taeymans. It is an oriented basilica in the neo-Romanesque style. To the right of the front stands the tower, in three tiers, crowned by a slender needle spire visible from afar.
