About this building

On Sint-Willebrordusstraat in Overbroek, a village of the Antwerp municipality of Brecht, stands the church of Saint Willibrord. Raised in 1890–1891 to designs by the architect Louis Gife, it bears witness to the flourishing of the neo-Gothic in those years.

Damaged during the Second World War, the building was carefully restored between 1946 and 1950. It is a single-nave brick church with a transept and an adjoining tower; the choir is closed by a flat east end. Especially characteristic are the courses of lighter brick that give the façades a lively rhythm.

The furnishings too are largely neo-Gothic, so that the interior naturally continues the building's unity of style and offers the visitor a coherent whole.
