Saint-Michel

A visitation report from 1570 already mentions a St Michael's chapel in Berg. The present church, built in 1744 by ‘Gerard Von Heisgen’, the then owner of the Berg estate, is picturesquely located on the hill of Berg, the western district of Colmar-Berg. The builder's family also used the church as their final resting place. The nave of the church was extended in the 19th century and the old portal was rebuilt. In 1908, the princely lodge was added, which the grand ducal family used for church services until the 1970s. The castle park surrounds the church on three sides and a narrow path across the churchyard provides a direct connection.

From the royal lodge you have a direct view of a patriotic window from 1923 that includes a picture of a member of the grand ducal family.

The 18th-century Baroque high altar bears the coat of arms of the de Blochhausen family, who became owners of the Berg estate in 1764.

Their cast-iron graves, dating back to 1786, can also be found in the surrounding cemetery.
