100 pennants from the diocese of Ghent
There are pilgrims in all cultures. They set off with a dream, the expectation of something special in their lives: their own recovery or that of a loved one, a child's wish, the protection of their animals ... At specific places they invoke specific saints as intercessors with the Most High. As proof of their journey and as a powerful means of protection they take something tangible with them from the place of pilgrimage: a statue, a medal, a picture or a pennant. In many old churches there was a commemoration and pennants were offered.
“100 pilgrimage vanes from the diocese of Ghent” will be exhibited in the St-Martinus church in Bambrugge (Erpe-Mere) on Open Church Days 2022. An organisation of the church administration St-Martinus Bambrugge in cooperation with the local history society Erpe-Mere.
