As part of the European Open Church Days, the Belgian author Daniel Remacle will present and sign his novel “L'Oratoire celte”, on the very spot where part of the plot takes place.
“L'Oratoire celte” is the first historical thriller by Daniel Remacle, who was born in Brussels in 1955 and has been living in Mont-devant-Sassey (Meuse) for several years. Passionate about history and architecture, his first novel takes the reader through the ages on the cross-border tracks of the Merovingians. A murder is committed in Brussels and the investigation takes the reader through the twists and turns of history with the Celts of Belgian Gaul, in the rival states of Austrasia and Neustria and with the investigators who try to solve the mystery on the banks of the Meuse, in the shadow of the Noble Lady of Mont.
Noted for its strong Belgian roots, “L'Oratoire celte” was a finalist for the Fintro 2020 “Ecritures noires” prize at the Brussels Book Fair.

A roman gem in a natural green setting...
Built in the Argonne foothills during the 11th and 12th centuries, the Church of Our Lady of Mont-devant-Sassey is one of the most beautiful religious buildings in Lorraine. Despite lengthy periods of construction, wars and plundering, it has maintained its architectural integrity and sober elegance.
It houses treasures of Roman and Gothic architecture and sculpture : the choir and 12th century open crypt are remarkable. The late 12th century nave has been completely restored and the 13th century carved portal is the oldest and best preserved in Lorraine.
