Sainte-Anne

On the Place de la Sainte-Alliance in Uccle stands the Church of Saint Anne, the parish heart of its neighbourhood. It was built in 1912 to the design of the architect Léon Depuits.

Its main façade is formed by a street-front gable with unequal slopes, a quadrangular bell-turret set to its left. Soon after completion, around 1913, the church received an organ by the Slootmaeckers brothers, former workmen of the Kerckhoff firm. In the early 1950s stained-glass windows were installed, made by Jean Slagmuylder after designs by Margot Weemaes.

The church also keeps the memory of a troubled time: during the winter of 1944–1945, at the time of the Ardennes offensive, the parish hall gave shelter to residents of the Malmedy almshouse who had fled the fighting — a quiet witness to hospitality in dark days.
