On the slope of the Edelareberg, surrounded by its churchyard, stands the church of Saint Martin at Edelare. First mentioned in 1110, when its right of patronage passed to the Abbey of Ename, it preserves fabric reaching back to the thirteenth century.

Around 1400 a western bay and tower were added and the choir enlarged; a transept followed later. After many alterations the building fell into ruin in the early nineteenth century, until a restoration begun in 1876 brought it back to life and the church was returned to use in 1893. A fire in 1973 was again followed by repair.

A single-nave church with transept and a massive fifteenth-century west tower, it combines brick, sandstone and bluestone; remains of Tournai stone still survive in its walls. Within, a pointed panelled barrel vault spans the space; alongside furnishings of 1876 and later, the church keeps a late-Gothic relief of the Entombment and two sixteenth-century grave slabs.
