During the Ancien Régime, Autreppe depended on the French parish of Gussignies, on the other side of the present border. In 1803, at the time of the Concordat, it came under the jurisdiction of the church of Onnezies until 1856. On that date, it was given a sanctuary: the church of Saint Louis with its zinc-covered bell tower, and established as an independent parish. From 1803 to 1856, the dead were buried in Onnezies via the wood (boquet à carbaux) and the well-named “chemin des morts” (now Rue Ghislain Luciez).
