Warm welcome!

Welcome to Hallaar pilgrimage church dedicated to Our Lady since 1502. We still celebrate pilgrimage mass every Sunday morning at 9 am. Among other things, the church houses the precious dressed wooden statue of Mary-with-child from the 15th century.

During this edition of Open Churches Days, you can enjoy the splendour of our church as a meeting place, but once again a photo exhibition on Hallaar, its history and everyday life of the past will be organised in the nearby parish hall. You can catch up over a drink and a piece of cake! Art, religion, history and nostalgia will go hand in hand that day, accompanied and guided by members of the church plant. Warm welcome!

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

This first Hallaic church was the chapel of the castle of the Mechelen Berthouten, which already existed in 1131. The origins of the present church date back to the 14th century and it has been dedicated to Our Lady since 1502. The church has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries.

In the church, there is a miraculous, clothed and kept statue of Mary with child. This statue is said to date from the 15th or 16th century.

The golden age of pilgrimage in the 17th and 18th centuries led to renovations and embellishments of the church, which was listed as a whole, together with the cemetery, in 1976.
