Saints-Jean-et-Etienne aux Minimes

The church of Minimes, as it is commonly called, is very well known in Brussels, firstly for its location a short distance from two very lively and well frequented districts in the town centre, the up-market, Sablon, and the working class, Marolles.

The church is also visited often for the numerous classical concerts that are regularly given there, especially for that of the Midi-Minimes in summer. The acoustics are very good.

The listed building itself is also worth a visit. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century in the transitional period between Baroque and Neo-Classicism. The pure style and the harmonious proportions recall the churches built by the architect Palladio in Italy. Light, which enters profusely, and the whitewashed walls contribute to its serene atmosphere. Several paintings, notably ones by Jan Cosiers , the pulpit , a Christ from 15th century Brabant and a listed organ (1681), the oldest in Brussels are all worth seeing.
