The parish was founded in 1924, as a strong population growth was foreseen. From 1932-1933, a definitive church was built, in brick, designed by F. Van Welden and Isidoor Hintjens. The church is located on an “island”, due to adjustments to the approach roads and the Kennedy roundabout. The exterior view, with neo-Romanesque touches, is the result of modifications requested by the Royal Commission on Monuments and Sites, which found the original design too modern.

The floor plan shows a cruciform pseudo-basilical layout. The parabola-shaped span is in concrete. The side aisles are basically walkways, with incorporated confessionals. The baptistery has served as a weekly chapel since 1973.

The colourful scene adorning the choir is executed in tiles. It depicts the glorification of Christ. The triumphal arch bears the inscription “Through Him and with Him and in Him be to you God Almighty Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and glory”. Below it hangs a wooden cross with painted representation of Christ and the symbols of the Evangelists. The main altar is in marble. Some statues of saints are in white stone. The organ comes from the Sisters of the Counts of Roeselare.
