Heritage Days in Verrières
The theme of the 2024 Heritage Days is networks and communication. Each historical period has had its own specific way of circulating and exchanging information, and Verrières Patrimoine has endeavoured to bring this to life for visitors to the weekend.
On the programme for Sunday 22.09.24 :
- screening of a short film produced by Gaptière Production on the history of Verrières, from its origins to the present day (meeting point in the former teacher's house),
- treasure hunt in the village and localities,
- discovery of the church's heritage treasures (stained glass windows, altarpieces, etc.).
Other activities on offer include a visit to the working communal bread oven (with a batch of bread), a tour of the nature reserve (flora and fauna), the Cidreraie (Verrières cider mill) and a stud farm (La Crochetière, home of the Percheron stallions).
During the day, the village will be explored by old-fashioned means of transport (clogs, dog-drawn carriages, bicycles, prams, 2CV Citroën and Solex).

Event Host Building
Saint Audoin
It is impossible to miss this church with its imposing nave and five gothic chapels, with ochre plastering, and an elegant slate covered steeple. In fact all the roads through the village go past it. The 18th and19th century houses cluster round it and so does the Town Hall and the Community Centre, to be found in the old 3rd Republic schools. The heart of the village also has a communal bread oven and a well, both restored and functioning.
Once the door is open it can easily be understood why it has the ISMH label. The main altar of limestone is decorated with touching statues (MH) 16th century in painted wood; a moving Christ suffering, (MH) in chestnut wood of German inspiration, another altar facing the congregation with carved heads of men and women (MH 16th century).
The light filters in through 8 stained glass windows (post-war) in the chartrain colours of the master Glass-maker chartrain Gabriel Loire, and envelopes the space. The church of St.Audoin is ready to welcome you.
