The principal religious site of the Jewish community of Brussels, the Great Synagogue occupies a choice place in the centre of Brussels, in the rue de la Régence not far from the museums of the centre and the Palais de Justice.

The building was inaugurated and dedicated in 1878. It is in the Romanesque and Byzantine style.

On the outside, the panels that surround the great rose window bear the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. The central part is crowned with the tablets of the Law.

The interior is abundantly decorated. In particular the mosaic stained glass windows, the candelabra, the great eight-branched chandelier and the organ must be noted.
