As the oldest monument, the stately spire of the Lille church tower has remained straight throughout the past centuries. Originating when the parish of Saint Peter Lille was still an appendix of the mother church in Vorselaar, it has defied time all these centuries. The tower has survived wars, looting and despite fire and destruction, it has remained standing. Just think : the Iconoclasm and 1566 ; The fire and 1584, Demolition of the Early Church and 1844.

It survived the theft of bells in the 1914-1918 war.

On 17 February 1913, the Ministry of Justice recognised the Lil church tower as a Public Monument. And on 19 March 1935, the Gothic tower was the first monument in the province of Antwerp, classified and protected as a monument by the Commission for Monuments and Sites. The exact construction date of the tower is not known but historians date its construction to the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century.

Apart from the tower, the old St Peter's Church was demolished and rebuilt in 1914 as we still know it today.

Not only is the steeple unique, but the church building houses many art treasures and special features. The altars, confessionals, the unique Louis Del Haye organ (around 1760), the wooden sculptures made by the well-known Mechelen sculptor Nicolaas Van der Veken, the beautiful paintings by members of the Flemish School, the numerous beautiful stained-glass windows, the baptismal font.
