On the program

Listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia, Soulme stands out for its rural architecture, dotted here and there with the pink hues of red marble, a coral limestone quarried locally between the 18th century and 1968. This circular walk invites you to explore the village streets and learn more about the listed Sainte-Colombe church and its 11th-12th century tower, its farms, the listed Soulme mill, the Hermeton valley and the old marble sawmill.

Guided tours: Sundays at 10.30am and 2pm (1 hour 20 minutes); Self-guided tour: Sundays from 8am to 8pm (2 hours); Activities: exhibition of old butter churns; Children: heritage trail (8-14 years old); Snacks: local produce.

This church at the top of the village, fringed with chestnuts and encircled by an ancient walled graveyard, has charm. Originally it was Romanesque and dates from the 11th century. The base of the naves and the choir are 13th century Gothic. Since then there have been various changes. Thus the portal of the tower is Neo-Classic.

In the southern aisle there is an altar dedicated to the patron saint of the parish, Columba, virgin martyr and roman baptismal fonts.

The stained glass window that illuminates the altar of the virgin is strangely decorated with a grey haired angel accompanied by two other angels with brown hair. The assumption is that these represent the donors of the window, a father and two sons.
