A parish was established at Heist-Goor in 1873. A temporary church was built. In 1877-1879, the definitive church was built to designs by Leonard Blomme. The brick used came from the local brickworks in Kwade Plas. Most of the church furniture was donated by Baroness Eulalie de Terwagne, then resident of Ten Bos Castle.

A new high choir and new side choirs were built in 1951-1952. The side aisles were also enlarged.

This is a south-facing three-aisled cruciform basilica in sober neo-Gothic style with a square tower attached to the right of the façade. Works of art and church furniture are mainly from the 4th quarter of the 19th century.
