Event Host Building

Sainte-Vierge

Built in 1826, its uncommon Neoclassical style is inspired by the religious buildings of the Dutch period. A brick ensemble on a stone base. The church comprises a square porch adorned with a mystical delta, a façade surmounted by a small tower, a central nave of three bays with square pillars, flat-ceilinged aisles and a choir with a flat chevet. On the façade, the wrought-iron wall anchors give the date 1826, the year of its construction.
Every year, on Whit Tuesday, the procession of the Tour de Wasmes passes through the streets of Wasmuel and stops at its remarkable and beautiful little church. The procession of the faithful sets out from Wasmes in the middle of the night after Mass. In the hope of seeing a wish come true, or to obtain forgiveness for a wrongdoing, many of the faithful join the procession, which is joined by the “Pucelette”.
