Christus Koning
The Church of Christ the King bears witness to the young, growing district of Hollebeek in Temse. When many homes were built here after the war, the district became an independent parish in 1952. While awaiting a permanent place of worship, the faithful first gathered in a temporary church fashioned from former American army barracks.
The definitive church was built from 1961 and consecrated in 1963. It is a plain hall church in the post-war modernist style, raised in brick and concrete, with a free-standing bell tower of the same materials. The last Mass was celebrated here in 2016; since 2019 a new use for the building has been under study.
