The Church of Saint Catherine in the Bosstraat district of Boom has its origin in 1913, when several hamlets were joined into a single parish. In this way the faithful were given a place of worship of their own at the heart of their community.

This sober, oriented brick church was built in 1938-1939 to designs by Jos Schaerlaken, in a restrained neo-traditional style. It is marked by its projecting, upright south-eastern tower, covered by an overhanging tent roof, which gives the whole a calm and well-balanced appearance.
