The Church of Our Lady of Tears stands at Kalfort, near Puurs, beside the Molenbeek. Its name recalls an ancient devotion: a relic was kept here that, according to tradition, was said to contain the tears of Christ. Around that veneration a first pilgrimage chapel arose in 1662.

In 1854–1856 a church in the form of a Greek cross was built on this spot, designed by Joseph Schadde. The present building is younger: it was raised in 1978–1979 to the plans of Luc De Boe. It is a hall church of brick and concrete in the post-war modernist style, with large windows, a flat roof and a free-standing, open bell tower.

When it was built, the bond with the past was kept: two stained-glass windows and several eighteenth-century gravestones from the old church were given a place in the new building. The church also treasures a statue of the Virgin from the second half of the seventeenth century. It is a protected heritage site.
