Saint Lambert

The village of Buisson is very popular with walkers, cyclists and hunters. The church, recognisable from afar by its white plasterwork that glows in the sun, is welcoming and open all year round. It was built in the early 19th century, but several elements of its interior decoration date back to the previous century.

The building is as bright inside as it is outside. Its Baroque high altar, white with grey mouldings, catches the eye with its brightly coloured canvas above the tabernacle. A modern composition in red, brown and yellow, it depicts Jesus freeing souls from the world of the dead.

The statues of Saint Anne and Saint Lambert, to the left and right of the altar, are fine terracotta works from the mid-19th century. The two remarkable ‘reliquary monstrances’, shaped like tall hats with feathers, bear witness to the devotion to the relics of saints. On the confessional, an eye in a triangle surrounded by rays reminds believers that ‘God sees everything’.

Before leaving, take a close look at the Stations of the Cross, created just after the war: at some stations, the men who arrest Jesus are depicted wearing soldiers' helmets and carrying rifles. Also note the two long bell ropes hanging in the entrance porch, ready to be pulled.
