Architect Henri Lacoste designed the building as a total work of art. The church was consecrated in 1943 and classified as a monument in 1985. The mine cathedral is protected as a village view. Notable features of the church include the baptistery, the celebration tower and the newly restored stained glass windows (glass in concrete). A work of light art, “Cloisterama”, placed in the atrium, by artist David Bachelor was inaugurated on 18 November 2023.
