The Church of Saint Bartholomew rises on the Zandvoordeplaats, in the village of Zandvoorde near Zonnebeke, gathering the community around the silhouette of its tower. A parish is attested here as early as 1102, its right of patronage then belonging to the abbey of Voormezele.

During the First World War the church of that time was entirely destroyed. In 1924 a new one arose: a west-facing neo-Gothic basilican cruciform church of yellow brick, preceded by a tower whose square base rises into an octagonal belfry stage. Inside, the space is covered by rib vaults.

Of the older furnishings a polychrome statue of Saint Cornelius, dated 1665, survives; the rest is neo-Gothic and dates from the reconstruction. So the church links its restored present to the age-old roots of its parish.
