Our churches can help strengthen social cohesion in rural areas, threatened by the drift towards the cities, the unravelling of village life and our increasingly individualistic way of living. Because they are symbols, shared history, meeting places, a space of welcome and quiet reflection. That is why, since 2017, Open Churches has received substantial European and regional funding under the Walloon Rural Development Programme (PwDR): "Open Churches: rural tourism and heritage". Many projects could never have seen the light of day without this major support: map-brochures, church routes, a multimedia website, themed gatherings, study days… Our warm thanks to SPWARNE (formerly DGO3) and to the Commissariat Général au Tourisme, who steer this EAFRD programme, for this fruitful collaboration.
