About this building
Perched on a promontory the church is clearly visible from the neighbourhood. It is a monumental structure in red brick and blue stone dating from 1865 and, like many churches of this period, is built partly in Romanesque and partly in Gothic style. he building is imposing as the tower, belfry and spire is around 72metres in height.
It was renovated in 2010. Inside is a Way of the Cross, the organ, the icon of Our Lady and stained glass windows.

Het orgel is afkomstig van Selzate. De bouwer ervan is onbekend. Het geheel is gereconstrueerd door de orgelmaker Delmotte uit Doornik in 1947. Hij bewerkte het orgel voor symfonisch gebruik en legde er een romantische toets in. De orgelkast stamt uit de 18de eeuw ,heeft 22 muziekstukken ,2 klavieren en 3 soorten geluid.

De bouw van de rechthoekige toren (38m) werd beeindigd in 1871. Hij bevat een geluidszaal en 2 klokkenkamers. Op de top van de achthoekige zuil bevindt zich een kruis dat 672 kg weegt. Het is -vanaf het onderstuk- 7m hoog en heeft een diameter van 2m25. Dit kruis is gerestaureerd in 1976 ,de zuil in 1991 en de toren zelf in 2010.

Ces notes sont celles du début du chant marial latin le Salve Regina dont la mélodie simple est bâtie sur le Ve mode grégorien.
L’icône de Notre-Dame au Bois

Vers 1730, un homme tombe dans un trou de fosse et supplie Notre-Dame de Grâce, dont l’icône était accrochée à un arbre, de le délivrer. L’heureux rescapé, en remerciement, fera édifier vers 1740 une chapelle et instaurera une ducasse à l’Ascension en 1757.
De nombreux pèlerins afflueront ainsi pour vénérer Notre-Dame au Bois ; le pèlerinage existe encore de nos jours.
